Source release

To build CSSED right now you must follow this steps:

• Download the CSSED tarball distribution (cssed-0.4.0.tar.gz).
• uncompress it (tar xfz <filename>)
• Type ./configure then make
• If no errors are shown, as root, type make install

RPM release

• Download the RPM file of CSSED (cssed-0.4.0-0.i386.rpm)
• type (as root) rpm -ivh cssed-0.4.0-0.i386.rpm

To use the Source RPM (cssed-0.4.0-0.src.rpm), follow the instructions in the RPM documentation.

The RPM packages are signed with this key.

Gentoo users

Gentoo users can install cssed with the emerge command. Please read further instructions in the portage user's guide.

Debian users

Debian users should use apt as usual to install cssed.

FreeBSD and OpenBSD

FreeBSD and OpenBSD should use the commands pkg_add cssed.

Fink users (MacOsX)

To compile it on MacOS 10.3.2, you need:

 
• a Fink installation using the 10.3 unstable tree
 
• Apple's X11 and X11SDK installed.

To enable Fink's unstable tree:

Open a terminal and type:

sudo pico /sw/etc/fink.conf + return

Enter your password when asking for.

Change the Trees lines as follows:

Trees: local/main stable/main unstable/main stable/crypto  unstable/crypto local/bootstrap

Be aware it should be one and unique line

Save the result as follows:

ctrl-O +return
ctrl-X

Update your Fink installation with:

fink selfupdate + return

Install cssed:

fink install cssed + return

If you do not find the very latest version of cssed on Fink, go to the Fink maintainer web site, download the info and patch files, place them in your local tree and proceed as usual.

Windows users

Windows user should install the Gtk runtime environment prior to install cssed.

Download GTK-2.4 runtime environment - or upper - if you don't have it installed.

Once installed dowload the cssed Windows installer and double-click on it. All plugins - but the Python plugin - are included in the installer as a choice.

Alternatively you can also download Python, PyGTK, and the Python plugin to be able to run Python scripts on cssed. If you do that please remember the versions of GTK, Python and PyGTK must match.

As example a valid set of executables should be:

• GTK-2.6
• Python 2.4
• PyGTK 2.6 for python 2.4

Updating from CVS

You can use CVS to get the last version of cssed following the instructions in the source forge CVS page

Instructions below are only to developers, non developers have no need to use those commands. Just checkout the last branch of cssed and build it.

If you use CVS to get the last cssed, take in account that we are adding files frequently and the build scripts must reflect this changes.

There are two ways to refresh the build scripts before updating from CVS if the last ones don't works

The autogen.sh script: it uses a short of brute force to rebuild all scripts needed in the building proccess.

The bootstrap script, that tries to add the new files and rebuild just necesary files.

Both scripts can work and use one or other is up to your system/preferences. MacOsX users avoid the bootstrap script, as it can mess the source tree in those systems.

Both leaves the source tree in a state where you just have to type ./configure and make.
